What do you guys know about a noise generator in our cars that make for a sporting sound?
I know pre-2011 GTIs have a noise pipe and now I find that newer models including the Roc may have an electronic sound generator

Can you turn it off?

The noise pipe on the GTIs was deleted from the Australian spec - apparently Australian buyers prefer a quieter car? Is the sound generator definitely present on au-delivered cars?

You could unplug it if you like.
Why would you want to turn it off... The sound inside is a real feature....

Far from fake... Unless the "noise generator" knows you have a tune as the sound inside is completely different now... But I can understand why non Scirocco owners would be jealous...

It's just a speaker that plays a tune in the engine bay based on throttle position as far as I am aware.
Sure the standard exhaust also makes a noise but it is "Assisted" by a speaker, not a "screamer pipe"
I have no need for one becasue the exhaust noise of mine is sufficient enough to be heard by itself.
I doubt very much if it does anything if it is fitted to the Scirocco...the aural ambience inside mine has changed since the tune regardless of throttle position... Not to mention the noticeable blip on downchange when in sport mode... Non of which would be simulated with a "speaker".
That you have needed to change your exhaust to get what the Scirocco has from standard must be annoying...😉
