Really bad fuel consumption

I had my scirocco for just on one month now and noticed the fuel consumption is terrible. From the mfd It is averaging 11-14 liters per 100km with a full tank of petrol showing 450km distance to empty! drivin is mostly urban. Official figures should be around 8L/100km

By comparison my r32 used to show 550km on a full tank and similar liters per 100km and in some cases better. Seems strange that r32 is awd and bigger engine.

Can someone please share their fuel consumption figures.

It all depends what you doing with it: everyday consumption get me to 450km max per tank (this is driving in Sydney pick hour/stock in traffic) when a holiday trip to Forster-Sydney on cruise control (110km/h max) allowed me to do 650kms on fuel tank.

Hey lads,

Im getting around 400 km on a full tank of BP 98 octane, very short trips though as perth city isnt that long of a drive anywhere, lots of traffic driving... so its not great. im used to the old TDIs from ireland getting 60mpgs so this is a shock...hopefully the apr tune stage 1 will give me some more to get to 450 km as you guys are stating...also ive only done 4500km on it so maybe thats reason for the poor milage....

I reckon you are living in hope if you expect to get 450km from tank. My driving is all city driving, using dsg as a manual, with APR and i've never seen close to 400km to a tank. Just 8,000km on mine.

Funny, just had this exact discussion with my GF tonight.
Our modified MK4 GTI used to get over 600k's to a tank of BP Ultimate, whereas the new R is getting 430 odd.
I expect it's still running a little rich and am keen to see what a tune will do to it, but it's certainly a bigger difference that i'd expected.
Probably has something to do with a heavier right foot though

Thought I'd chuck my experience in here.
I have been very impressed with mine. Last tank i got 570km's when the light came on. I give it a good blast 99% of the time im in it, but then again you hit the speed limit and then cruise and watch the fuel economy drop from 18 to 14 to 12 to 10 to mid 8's generally.
Im taking quite windy and flowing roads though. Stop start traffic make it sit mid 9's but i cant remember having it average over 10's.

I drive an average of 40kms a day through urban traffic with quite a few traffic lights and standstill moments. When I first got the car 7000kms ago it was doing 11.5-11.8L/100km. So I did what I've done to all my other cars when they get high Ks: Give it a good long hard drive around the outskirts and a service. Excess carbon build up maybe? Car needs exercise lol.
Now I'm getting anywhere between 9.5-11.3L/100kms. I also find that manually shifting the DSG helps too.
