    Oil Temperature and Synthetic Oils

    Hi guys,

Do our cars run mineral or synthetic oils?

Do we have to worry about the oil breaking apart?

Today was a hot day and the oil temperature hit 107.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Not unless you skip services, no.

The engine should be able to handle a lot more than that.

    Cool. Thanks.

I was wondering if it would impact us as per the other recall of Synthetic oil breaking and causing a fuse to blow.

I have cruised at elevated oil temps in the 120-135 deg Celsius range, and peaked at 140 deg C on a cool day in the GTD. At the time the car felt good, no problems, nothing dropped off etc. That was 25,000km ago and it still hasn't gone bang! It seems to be pretty good oil in a pretty good motor. I imagine the guys who hit the track regularly would notice very high temps, if they have the time to check.

Is the Castrol stuff any good? Dealer recommended it, plus I see their stickers everywhere...sounds like marketing more than anything

Well. Today my Check Oil Amber warning graphic turned on in the car. This car is a joke. A new problem for me to deal with.

I wonder when the dealers are going to be open.

That would be the synthetic oil in the 7 speed DSG which is nothing like engine oil & a transmission type not fitted to the Scirroco. Also, it wasn't the synthetic oil breaking down, the oil was affecting the electronics.

You could just go to Supercheap on boxing day & buy some 504 / 507 oil in the 20% off sale (even 502 is fine for top-ups).

Have you checked your oil level since buying the vehicle or read the section in your manual regarding oil consumption during running-in, the need to regularly check the oil level & the oil type required?

I know who the joke is if you haven't followed some simple maintenance requirements.

Of course it must be a total joke! Cars should not use any fuel to run either
