You're on 12m/15k service intervals. For petrol engines use 502.00. For diesels use 507.00.
If you are on LongLife (variable time & distance up to 2yrs/30,000km) you use 504.00 for petrol or 507.00 for diesels.
What it doesn't point out (it's in another para) is that for severe service (examples are given) you should reduce change intervals. Most folk use 504.00/507.00 on the 15k/12m regime (all 504.00 oils have 507.00 certification as well) and this counteracts the severe service issues. 502.00 is fine for top-ups & readily available.
The oil Martin points out is great & cheap - ~$70/5L. Shell Helix Ultra Extra is also 504.00.
Yes I use Penrite Enviro+ in both cars
ALL Australian VW are on Time or Distance servicing.
The oil recommended is the minimum spec and the higher spec is useable as well.
It SHOULD be VW approved and in the lubricant section there is a list of APPROVED oils listed
The -a refers to the note under the chart as does the -b
If in doubt use the 504/507 APPROVED oil
It might be expensive but its a lot cheaper than a new engine.
