    Thanks on the car -

Was Cricks at Springwood, dealt with the sales manager, David Hassett - he was really great
All very low key and we got an unbelievable deal. Customer service since then has also been just unbelievable, nothing is a trouble - I've been back about 4 times now.
    They are highly recommended.

He also gave us complementary tickets to the VW Driving Experience at Lakeside Raceway. That was fun flogging the ears off Golf R's, Sciroccos and Golf GTI's - all were DSG too.

Car is being leased and will replace another car coming off lease, thus the time frame and they were prepared to stock it until the end of December, well it has been there about 3 weeks.

    Hi ZinbAd
Mine will only be used for "special" occasions, like when it can be parked without fear of getting car park rash when we get to destination - no shopping mall type carparks - EVER. Likewise nothing will ever get put in the boot that could mark it. It will live a very protected life - but that doesn't mean that it won't get driven like it should be !!!

    Yes, noticed the same thing
Rising Blue is THE colour for the car (IMHO) and I agonised over that before settling on the white. It was the look of the black stripes on white that made me go for white. The closest I could get to seeing what white stripes on blue would look like was on a limited edition of the Toyota GT86 or it might have been a BRZ - same difference - like this

Works well and would look OK with the red side stripes too. But I wasn't game enough to go that way

I notice you are in Vic so that might be a bit difficult unless you come to the Gold Coast for holidays LOL
Will be posting photos once it is all done

The good news is settlement took place today so I am technically the owner of a Scirocco R.

[edit 30/12/15] Went and saw dealer today (Wednesday) and registration and hand over is scheduled for next Monday morning, 4th January, following fitting stripes on Saturday if they arrive in time
[edit 1/1/16] They didn't - Stripes still caught up somewhere in Australia Post - Bummer
Will have to take delivery without them - have arranged to use fitting bay next Saturday - hopefully they will here by then

    Still Still Happy days !!

They will go on next weekend, provided they get here in time

    Nice work, congratulations.
That big black plastic front number plate holder comes off and you can look at a slimline plate (through PPQ) to replace the silly standard QLD one if you fancy a quick mod. The holes can be covered easily enough (see my post in the Scirocco photos thread)

Thanks, magic car to drive and stoked with sound
Dodged the rain yesterday but won't be so lucky today
Only get about $20 of fuel in the car so will be filling it up today as prices are down right now - any excuse to use it LOL

I saw your post on the number pate holder. Great idea, decided it would disappear when the stripes went on.
Even mentioned it to the dealer and he had no problem with it even though I wouldn't technically own it yet
As I said earlier, Cricks at Springwood have to be the best car dealership I have ever dealt with and we have dealt with many over the years
From the quick calcs and measurement I've done, the stripes will cover the holes -
just have to find a way to fill them so they don't show through the vinyl - do your plastic discs sit flush with the bumper surface ?
Otherwise will probably machine up a couple of aluminium discs and glue in place

OK on the slimline plates - any idea what Qld Transport extort for the privilege ??
    Cheers

I bought mine from that dealer when it was Highway Auto 3 years ago.
If the stripes cover the holes then that's great. The hole covers that I have aren't flush but they are barely noticeable.
I swapped both front & rear plates, slimline for front only and opted for black and white. They were about $160.

Any idea when Cricks "took over"
As mentioned here or elsewhere, we started looking at this car purchase about 2 years back
I had 2 test drives at what is now Cricks - think the MY14 had just been released for the first, then an MY15
They were very good even at that stage - never any pressure

Thanks that is reassuring. It is big decision to make the car look so different
When I was trying to get dimensions of the stripes I opened a thread on the UK Scirocco forum and never got a reply
Even sent a few PMs but once again no replies.
Reading some of the threads the stripes are not very popular and most of the GTS owners actually remove them.
Seems strange to me when that is how they leave the factory.
Eventually contacted a guy in South Africa who has a GTS and he has helped enormously. Measured up his car (stripes) and sent me photos. Couldn't have done it without his help. Well assuming they eventually DO arrive.

Just went and had a re-look at your before and after photos. Worth the cost and trouble. Really unclutters the front
Got me thinking about the colour. Think mine will work better with white on black as the black will blend in with the black stripes. Then fitting a black surround on the plate will remove the white around the edges so the plate will almost disappear. Works in with the stripe dimensions as well. Plate width is 372 and the stripes to the outer edges of the black are 460 front and 430 back.
Just have to get approval from the minister of finance.
    Thanks for you help

    OK After 2 weeks

    Now has just over 500kms
What a sound - makes it hard keeping it legal though
Do you ever get used to it ?? The sound ???

Our roads here are crap. Running on Comfort setting is just OK
Tried Sport to see what sort of difference and I think any more than a few minutes would require a trip to the dentist
Crap crap roads, so looks like comfort it will be and then Normal on the motorway

We have a 60 and an 80kph speed zone where they use hand held speed guns so I use cruise control to avoid going over
So I get to use the right hand footrest quite a bit
It is really great - thought it would be a bit strange at first but got used to it quite quickly - really comfortable

Stripes didn't arrive in time to fit them before taking delivery
Well they DID arrive but they were no good
The first were totally wrong and the second they stuffed up dimension wise - 2 fails out of 2
Got a refund but that doesn't help the situation - wasted 3 months !!!
Got them locally and all arranged for fitting last Saturday and it blows a veritable gale
Postponed for a week and long range forecast is showers - well at least it isn't wind - can wash and chamois off
Will post photos once, if ever it happens

the sound from the exhaust never gets tiring, shove it in manual mode and use the paddles - I use that more often than anything else. Sport mode on the gearbox is good fun but it's hard to use daily. Sport mode on the suspension side is a bit harsh on our quite dreadful roads but you notice the difference with the steering. I was using the Sport mode suspension setting for a while to see if I could live with it but kept getting low tyre pressure warnings
    Shame about the stripes
You'll have to take it up to Tamborine when you get a chance - that's a fun morning out.

    Finally -- the Beast

Finally got some good weather over the Australia Day break and got the stripes on

The official I have ordered/received my new Scirocco thread-p1020904s-jpg

The official I have ordered/received my new Scirocco thread-p1020907s-jpg

Rear centre parking sensors , as you would expect by Murpy's law, fell right under the red stripe
The official I have ordered/received my new Scirocco thread-p1020910sa-jpg

Would be a tough job to cut out neatly, although I do have the correct size wad punches
used a few scraps of vinyl on one side to compare to no vinyl on the other and they work right through the stripe - no difference to no vinyl on the other side
The official I have ordered/received my new Scirocco thread-p1020909sa-jpg

Had to build up the centre with 3 "dots" to make them level but they look better than cutting them out - in the flesh you can just make out the sensor under the stripe but you have to look for it

    I'm stoked -

Checked it out today and it definitely goes better with stripes . . . .LOL

Any further photos will be put in the "Photos thread"
