Just noticed the numberplate on your Rocco Cranwellpoacher.
I used to own a Polo D677XPN. It is probably from Caffyns in Haywards Heath!
Nice to see you fella's have a REAL VDub over in Oz !.Seriously though, you are doing a fine job mate, and beleive me it will be worth every min you spend sorting her !.I've had 4 Roc's now, and my daily driver is a '92 GT2 with original carb,no Power steering,no ABS and i love it....
.Keep us updated about the progress of the project, and if you need any hints/tips or spares, why not drop in at our forum in the UK. www.sciroccoregister.co.uk .Their are lots of Scirocco nutters on that site, and they would be more than happy to help you out.Best wishes.Andy

So managed to find some time this week to start building the engine for the Rocco.
Its an AEB Engine code from a 1.8T Passat 1998. I bought the motor with a snapped timing belt and got the head rebuilt to the tune of $800! 16 out of 20 valves were cactus.
I was gonna just slap the head on the original bottom end, but mastertech Beau did not like the condition of the pistons, so we pulled it all down.
New rings were no dramas, bores honed up nice. Conrod bearings are some fancy butterbearing that crushes when tightened, $290 Trade price from VW. Not Happy.
Block honed and polished ready for pistons.
Head sitting on
Close of play today, manifolds and turbo sitting on there.
Got hold of the Golf intake, as the passat one is the wrong way round, thanks h100vw
Also scored a turbo from dub20v. Thanks mate.
Some of the lines for the oil and the water to the turbo need to be modified as there are differences between the engines.
I am using the AEB block, as it has the external waterpump and the boltholes for a Mk1 engine Mount
I have a custom idler pulley and a longer timing belt to clear the mount.
The rocco runs out of rego in april, so will probably pull it apart after that.

VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

So your way ahead of me.. You must have an abundance of cash and time to burn...
You going with original engine management or got something else planned Matty ??
Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...
If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
Cheers,
Grant...
good to see some project on this baby! would love to see it come nats..
I do have an original loom and ecu, but splicing it all in would be fun!
I`m not keen on a local aftermarket solution that wont be tailored to the engine.
I rang QPENG the other night and spoke to Ben Leech in the UK. He can build me a loom and ecu exactly tailored to any spec provided I use all VW parts and give him the part numbers! As mine is a carby car, the loom would include all the fuel pump relay and wiring and have minimal splicing into the loom. They even have outputs to plug into the sensor wires in the car harness and work the gauges in the original cluster. It is powered by the old coil wires in the loom.
I`m quite liking this idea as the wiring in the Rocco has been lovingly redone and it all works perfectly. I`d like to keep it that way.
Anyone got any bad or good points about a QPENG setup?
They also offered free software upgrade if I change to a K04 and bigger injectors provided I use vw parts.
It worked out at about $2000 plus shipping and customs.

I have had a few of these fine vehicles (better than Golf imo)from 1.6 carb through to 1.8GTX and Storm.
Any how for hard to come by parts try Alan at

Hope this helps.
Nice one R1 Crasher.
I also owned a Storm in the UK and I rate the Scirocco as a better drivers car than the Golf.
