Looking at buying a R...Help!!

Guys and girls been eyeing up green R's and gonna get a manual I think...
Anyway is there any factory optional extras on them I should look out for?

Ie leather recaros, sunroof, bigger brakes etc????

I would think hard about the DSG/Manual debate.

If you are thinking of tuning it at all. Consider the cost of a clutch replacement, you'll struggle to see that done under $2k I reckon. Which would see your ECU and DSG tuned if you go that way.

I just did a Golf R to stage 2, 90k on it. Stage 2, couldn't do the logs because the clutch gave up.

Oh didn't think of that, so dsg is the one to go for as I quill deffo be wanting more power ie stage 1 maybe 2.....

Yes manuals often fry/have to upgrade clutches after stage 1 tune - especially the Mk7 Golfs.

The DSG is generally ok up to stage 3 where you upgrade turbos and then you have to look at upgrading DSG clutch packs also.

But the manual is $2k cheaper and you need to spend around this on upgrading the clutches so nett result is zero difference and just buy the box you want.

Even though I'm more of a manual fan the DSG is excellent and I chose it solely because of the resale option.
I've done stage 1 on my Rocco and it's awesome but if you take a further than that then I would look at what other options are available to keep the car planted to the road as its very easy to lose traction.
Leather wasn't an option on the earlier Sciroccos so unless someone has had the seats upholstered then you'll be out of luck. Sat nav option was over $3000 (rort) back in the day.
My recommendation - go for stage 1, pick up some H&R springs to drop that ride height by 30mm and look around for some decent wheels

This! Buy the transmission that's going to suit your driving preferences and circumstances. It affects everything about how the car drives and how much you'll enjoy driving it. Forget about what might (or might not) save you a few pennies in aftermarket parts should you modify extensively.

(From someone who went from a DSG - admittedly a great gearbox - back to a manual for the fun of it.)

Yep drive both, buy what you want. My first test drive of a DSG back in 2009 when the mk6 GTI was released had me hooked. I've had DSG cars ever since. But do get a hankering to drive a manual every now and then. The VW manuals are very good to drive. So are the DSGs.
