That doeesnt make them right though depending on your age because there is a section later in the rules for people over 25 who already hold a full licence fromm their country of origin, especially if is on the list of countries that Aussie recognises their licences.

OP may get away with it for a while but trying to be a smarty doesnt always work.

To wit all the Skylines in the wreckers in NZ that Asian students (Mostly) bought and very shortly stacked them.

Was hard to buy headlights for them but taillights were cheap. One wrecker had them stacked 3 high in his yard

I have a full driving license accompanied by an international driving license from my country, and i'm here on a temporary student visa (for 3 years). So, what i understand from that is that i can drive the car for 3 years until my visa expires?

I was thinking the same thing too, but i'm only here to study so maybe after uni I'll go back to my home country. If not then i would have to sell it .
The insurance is $4500 but by increasing my excess to $2100 i can reduce it to $2500. Can't do much about it.

I have been driving for 2 years now and i have handled cars such as a tuned Golf Gti with 250KW, an Audi A4 with no accidents whatsoever.

What the rule says in that case is that you dont need a Vic licence until your overseas licence expires NOT UNTIL YOUR VISA RUNS OUT As per this sentence

If you are in Victoria on a temporary visa, you can drive on your overseas driver licence for AS LONG AS IT IS CURRENT providing it is in English or accompanied by an English translation or International Driving Permit. There is no requirement to get a Victorian driver licence.

So if it expires in 1 year from now you will have to get a Vic licence and because of your age you cant drive the car as you will be on a P in Vic If however your licence lasts for the 3 years you will be Ok but you should register and insure it in your own name as if not that person will get your infringement notices and could end up losing their licence or even end up in jail if they are not paid. I certainly wouldnt be responsible for someone like you, no matter how good a driver you may be.

It is a stupid rule as why should an 18yr old from another country be able to drive a banned car here when our own 18yr olds cant under any circumstances. Not really fair no matter what licence they may hold.

Yup, my license expires in 4 years time so that would be fine. I registered the car under my name and so will the insurance. Everything is legal so its fine.

    (My emphasis added in bold).

In the spirit of being factually correct, the requirement is that a person resident in Victoria on a Temporary Visa may drive on their overseas licence as long as it is current. That does not preclude that person renewing their licence in the appropriate manner in their home country whilst residing in Victoria under the Temporary Visa; for the purposes of the Victorian legislation the renewed licence remains current and thus a valid means of legally operating a motor vehicle in Australia.

And with that in mind, spend some of the reduced premium on doing an advanced driver training course in your Scirocco. You'll learn a heap about how to control the car when things go wrong and you may even get a further reduction in your premium depending on your insurer.

No it probably doesnt provided that they can renew it that way However they have to have the valid documentation in their possession.

Doesnt matter in this case. But had the OP posted ALL the facts or asked the correct authority we wouldnt even have got to two pages in this thread.

For legal interpretations always ask the horses head Not the tail LOL
