    Cracked Instrument Cluster

Noticed a one inch crack today in my instrument cluster. Very annoyed.

Positive it would have been from the detail my car got last week as its the first time its been cleaned inside apart from vacuuming from myself.

I'll go back to the detail-er, but I don't think i'm going to get much luck, esp when they realise the cost to replace the cluster. Insurance might be a waste of time too. Just wondering if anyone knows any other solutions... just to replace the plastic maybe, or some company that can fix it.

If the crack starts at the edge near the black surround that holds it in then it should be ok for warranty claim....If the crack is in the middle some how then no....Ive seen them replaced under warranty before if cracked from the edge..(stress crack)...VDUB...

Took a pic, then a couple more when I took off the surround later.

Am I sol? Right hand side obviously has crack, but looks like started from just above where the surround clips in, and the left hand side is starting to do the same thing. Crack in the black plastic, and starting on the clear plastic just a tiny bit.

Go to a dealer and ask...be nice and not pushy...I think you have a good chance of warranty...they might want to put in a request to vw first to see if they will pay but give it a go...plenty of QLD dealers to try if one says no....go when they are not busy and have time to look at it with you....

    Just a follow up.

After initial inspection the service manager sent off a few photos to 'the factory'. A few days later they responded with a request for more photos, this time with the trim off.

They were sent off, and a few days later the warranty work was approved. Took another few weeks for the new part to come in, but was installed today, good as new. I'll keep a good eye on it as now I suspect it may have happened by itself, and therefore may happen again.

But I'm a happy customer at the moment as that would have been a serious cost to replace myself.

Just as a side note, in the month or so since I first took the photos, the crack on the left side, which didn't exist except for the start on the black surround had grown to well over an inch into the clear plastic like on the right side. Something to look for I guess.
