    2011 Scirocco R Timing belt or chain?

    Hi all, like the title states, Does the scirocco R have a Timing belt or chain ? Cheers

    The EA113 engine as found in the Mk6 Golf R and Scirocco R uses a timing belt. But, what often confuses people is that the timing belt only drives 1x camshaft, so on the other side of the engine it has a timing chain which connects the 2x camshafts.

    Ah okay, all makes sense now, big mixture of information online with these. Does that timing belt also run the water pump?

    Yes the timing belt runs the water pump. Both items should be replaced every 5-6 years or about 100,000km

    Yeah its probably a good idea to get it done soonish so you know everything is up to date and start your baseline of maintenance from there during your ownership. You could always pop the cover off and just do a quick visual inspection of the belt to get an idea of how its going......hopefully no obvious signs of cracking or other deterioration.

    Yeah, that's a good idea, that's the top part of the cover with 2 bolts ?
