Mine does this too, I think its the power steering pump. Doesn't seem to be an issue as its always done it and still works fine?

Are there any noticeable changes in the car's driving?

I've noticed the same with my VR. I have also noticed if I warm her up for 3 mins or so there is a better performance and better throttle response when the car is warm.

when it's cold the car is just craptacular in acceleration

VR6 doesn't have a timing belt and no tensioner pulley, my GL though had that problem, could be the auxilliary belt on the VR6 though.

Mine also runs like crap when its cold, but then again its just running like crap in general atm

I think mine may be the bearing in the PS pump. Seems fine once it's warmed up and no other noises afterwards even at full lock so I guess it's ok?
