I think it's normal for most cars unless you are lucky enough to find a car for sale from someone who just spent lots of money on it, otherwise, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and know how to fix little annoying things (not heater cores), then it's quite cheap to get any car.
That's nothing - 4 days after I bought mine this is what the mechanic had to repair: Front discs & pads (& flush), rear shocks (went for Bilsteins' though , springs and bump stops, radiator & fan, air con recondition, and a window regulator. Total cost - $4300!!! Then I needed new rims so I went for a tyre/wheel package and of course had to go 17 x 7 ($1400). Now all I need to do is fix a mystery oil leak and the window regulator on passenger side. And loving it...
Well I'm up for a service soon and have to fix the following:
New tires all round
Recently installed stereo now not working
Car vibrates heavily at anything over 30kph (thanks to a big pot hole 2 weeks ago)
Plus other stuff that I cant recall... oh dear
