    Whining Noise - Belt Tensioner

Gday, just thought i'd write about this problem i had in the lest week or so.It sounded like someone installed a supercharger in my 1994 VR6, there was a whirring/whining sound that followed engine speed. Turns out it was the belt tensioner, i regreased the bearings in it using this DIY http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1138497 and sprayed some WD40 into the tensioner itself. All good, no more supercharger...

my car sounds a little like it has a supercharger as well, like the sound you have described, but it is a 2l GL, would it possibly be the same problem/solution?

Yep sure is. When you get those belts replaced you should also get the tensioner replaced as well... Seems someone hasn't done that.

Id assume the belt has been been done, but not by me. would this be expensive to get done? by a mechanic, or is it achievable for my unexperienced self?

I'm sure you could do it... But you want to make sure your belts are tensioned properly after it.

I'm lazy personally and get Joe at Golfwagen to do everything, except window regulators.
