    Where do we go to get new brake parts in Oz/Sydney?

    Hi all,

    Gotta get new shoes 'n' rotors for a Mk3 Golf 2.0GL.

    1. What pads and rotors work best on the street? Low dust & noise are most important, the car doesn't get driven hard at all.
    2. Where to go... there is a local supplier (Tooley Imports) but their over the counter prices tell me to go elsewhere.

    In the US ATE rotors are $30 each anywhere. Where is cheap that sells/and or stocks VW parts here?

    If only you had a VR6 I'd offer to sell you the rear pair of brembo rotors I have.
    Last time I checked for rotors locally a company called DBA rotors seem to supply businesses in Australia. I remember though that they wanted about $200 for a rear pair...really expensive, it was cheaper and unusually faster to get them from ECS Tuning.

    There are quite a few kits floating on eBay that include everything but not sure of the quality.

    gslrallysport.com for dba discs. got both on my 3CC V6 4 MOTION and are excellent.

    I was kind of hoping there'd be some standout options for replacing stock 2.0 setups. Have used Akebono Euro ceramics on BMWs with great results. I'm sure the ATEs would be good too, perhaps better. I usually prefer to get ATE rotors but if dba are competitive I'll get them instead. Performance DBA look good but I'm not out to spend big on this unless it buys new calipers and larger rotors

    I've seen the Chinese ones RDA bring in and am not out to double the cost unless there is a reason. I'll pay double for ATE gladly but all things are relative- the RDAs can be somewhat overpriced. The base option is some RDAs and some Ceramics pads. Maybe even Bendix semi-ceramic stockers. I hate that option, but it is cheap and should work.

    Just need a local supplier. I'll ask BMTS, but Brisbane is probably too far .

    ATE and DBA are like chalk and cheese. Very different in quality and design philosphy.

    I put Textar pads and rotors on the front of a Mk3 GL the other week at the cost of $250, including labour to the customer. Very good quality stuff.

    Thanks Umai Naa! I could goto my local guy and get something similar, not a bad idea as I don't like brake dust and scrabbling around under the car in the weather a lot.. yea stock should be fine if its all new.

    BTW Do I use DOT4 fluid on a '97 2.0 Golf?

    The pads on it aren't old though. I went for a drive today and went a little harder on the brakes. I've never worn out a set of pads on any car yet, only replaced (previously) worn out ones. I use the brakes so seldom I may only lose 1mm/year of pad material!

    Anyway, the pedal was fine but then, it dropped 10mins driving. No brake pressure warning light and the fluid level was fine, so I kept going for an hour. It seems to have 2 heights; intermittently dropping to half high every now and then. Maybe a safety feature to keep the driver awake on long trips.

    Must be some air in the lines. Probably the hills cause a bubble to move around in the system. I will remove the each steelie once it stops raining and inspect each caliper for leaks, and do a positive pressure bleed to see if that sorts it out.

    You'll probably find it'll be the master cylinder on its way out. I wouldn't be driving it until I knew for certain.
