    Wheels, will they fit?

    Sorry for the dumb question I'm new to all this. I'm wanting to replace the wheels on my VR6 which are currently 17". I've got my eye on a set with the same stud pattern (5x100) but I'm not sure about the offset part of it. The wheels measure 16x6.5 with an offset (ET55). I know the VR6 have an offset of ET35 which is clearly off... Any advice is welcome. (;

Standard VR6 wheels have a width of 6.5 inches and are ET43, so these wheels will sit further inside your guards but I don't think they'd touch on anything. Clearance should be good, but it'd look kinda meh. You couldddddd put on some spacers which (albeit being illegal) if done right ie. using hubcentric rather than slip-on spacers are still safeish and pump the wheels out a little further

if you're on coilovers they are going to rub bad im fairly sure, depending on tyre size and ride height. space em out some and theyd be fine They will sit 8mm further into the gaurds then stock.

Is 8mm a lot when it comes to wheel fit? Doesn't sound too bad... I haven't put coils in yet but I do have a set of cheap Racelands sitting in the garage ready to go.

I think they should be ok in the back, although I know in the front of mine my stock wheels only just dont rub on the coilover (it did until i fixed the camber) although mine is quite slammed. They probably wouldnt look awfully good sitting so far in but they might be fine. Its possible you might have brake clearance issues as well. If you could test fit them that would help but if not, and you really want them, be prepared to have to run a small spacer (you might not need to, but you might, hard to tell without trying)

    What sorta wheels are they?

you really want lower offset and/or wider wheels, you'd be reducing the cars footprint which may affect handling, it's going to be pretty rubbish fitment seeing as the stock wheels don't exactly fill the guards as it is, it'll look like a fat chick in heels and likely handle accordingly. What sort of 17"s are they?

They are BBS B4 wheels off a Subaru. These are the specs:

    Size - 16x6.5 offset (ET55)
    Tyre - Maxgrade 205/50r16 87v
Weight - 6kgs ( forged aluminuim rims) without tyres.

    Should I just opt out?

for a mk3 the tyres are to big i believe (205/50/16 is what a mk4 generally has)
ideally you'd like the offset to be more like ET30, but can also come down to how low/high your car is and tyre size
use on of the offset calculators, and measure it yourself. its probably your best bet

im no wheel expert, but even if those wheels clear your calipers with those offsets i beleive you will have problems with the center bore if the wheels in question are factory Subie spec.... maybe one of the fitment experts can help out here ?

ooo good point. will be you major problem. centre bore is smaller then your VW. subaru is 56, vw is 57.1
So you could get some 20-25mm custom adapters (cover you for smaller centre bore and offset) and smaller tyres and you'd be sweet.
But thats big $ for some subaru wheels...
    Id just can it.
