Question Wheel Fitment - VW Noob Question - MK3 Golf

    Right,

no idea wtf is going on in the world of VW's / Front Wheel Drives in general.

16x8 Wheels, what kind of offsets will sit nicely (just legal) on a MK3 Golf?

Will there be clearance issues with wheels that wide on a front wheel drive?

And ALL MK3 Golfs are a 4x100 Stud pattern...

It pays to check these things lol.

    Cheers,

    Joe

VR6 was 5x100, offset around 30-40 as a ballpark, someone with more specific MkIII knowldge should be able to provide better detail.

5 x 100? Is that not also the crazy subaru size, sounds familiar to me, or is the difference in the et43 that you mentioned, this is the distance between the inside edge of the rim and centre hub yes?

yeah some subarus are also 5x100. vr6 has a centrebore of 57.1 i should also add.

The subaru with the same stud pattern have a smaller centrebore and either a really high or low offset (i cant rememebr) which makes not many of there wheels friendly to fit...

Toyotas were 5x100 as well with a 54mm centre bore

A 7.5x16 ET35 was OK on them, so maybe an 8x16 ET30 or so might be too.

    8x16 ET30 wouldn't be exactly legal.I'd run with a 7.5x16ET35.

I cant remember exactly, i havent been on it in a while but, tirerack.com, you used to able to put your car in, and what size wheel. Then it would tell you what wheels could fit, or if you would need to do modifacations, spacers, etc.

    what makes you say that?

8" et30 will only extend an extra 40mm (from stock). Still some room before that's close to the arch. (i'd say about 20mm before it's even close.) Also, it's only 10mm further out from the 7.5 et35. Tyre size will also have effect.
