What size tyres on your VR6?

I currently have 205/45R16 sized tyres, but am soon to be in need of new ones and have come across a cheap set of 225/40R16. Is anyone running 225s on their VR? Do you think they will be too wide for a 6.5" rim? Do you think they will rub?

I reckon you'd need to get the lips rolled if its lowered. Mine is lowered and running 205/40/17's, rubs when I have passengers in the back but not badly, 225 is a fair amount wider though.

Maybe worse than rubbing they'll distort the sidewalls reducing the effective strength in the sidewall. You'll get more movement of the tyre across the rim so the car will not change direction as quickly. Since you would be going up two tyre sizes on the same rim width the sidewall characteristics of the tyre may also prevent them from seating correctly on the rims giving some balance problems.

It will depend a bit on the characteristics of the tyre how much these effects will bother you in normal driving.

I have 205/45/16's on a 7 inch rim... They don't rub even with people in the back, but then again I'm only sitting on a 38mm drop. Yeah 225's would need a rolled arch and specific supension to be honest, and 6.5 inch is too small for it.

For a 225 most people have a 7 inch plus tire, closer to 7.5 inch

You could always try it, and if you get away it with i'm doing it next ! My wheels aren't dish anyway, 0 offset... errghhh...

a 225 tyre should go on a 6.5 rim no worries. Look up the specs of the tyre on the manufacturers website. They will usually tell u the min and max width rim the tyre is designed for.

I think 225 will be pushing it though. What is the offset of your rims?

Thanks for the replies guys. Interesting to hear that some of you get rubbing with 205s, I have loads of space. Manufacturer says that they will fit onto a 6.5 rim, but 7 or 7.5 is recommended
