    What Brake Fluid?

    Hey Guys,
Soon to be installing a set of Neuspeed braided brake lines in the VR, intending to flush the whole brake system and replace with new fluid, what fluid do you recommend?

HAve a read and decide if you need to spend big money on Motul.

Personally I wouldn't, look for some DOT 5.1.

I use & recommend Castrol Response Dot4 for everyday use. Also used by BMW & VW.
But for more extreme conditions, Castrol Response Super Dot4

I like it not only because of it's performance characteristic's, but also because it's yellow & you can see when it's getting old.
It start's to turn dark as it get's older & if it's been on a track & used hard a few times, it turn's alittle milky. Good service indicator.

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 year's. 1L is more than enough to flush the braking system, especially when you have a pressure bleeder.

Also, just a little side note, any braided brake hoses that aren't made in Aust. & source elsewhere are illegal as they don't comply with our ADR's. (it's this way in Vic., don't know about other states)

All braided brake hose's should have a ADR-7 so they comply with Aust ADR's.

When I swapped over my brakes for VR6 gear, I went for Castrol as well. It was only at about $10 for the bottle as well, and I remember the Super DOT4 was only a few dollars more expensive than the "regular" DOT4. Brake response was very good - not spongy, but not overly sensitive (like Corollas and Camrys).

Just gotta bump this old thread for a second.

Is it a bad idea to mix brake fluid? I want to top mine up but I've got no idea what the old stuff is that's in there.

From what I gather, you can mix DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 together but DOT 5 cannot be mixed with the others...
