vr6 upper timing chain guide and tensioner early vs late

Hi guys, i am in the process of doing a timing chain service and accidentally ordered the later top guide rail and tensioner. I have since done some research and have found out that the new style tensioner and guide are an updated part, is that true? Could i fit the new guide and tensioner to my "series 1" vr6? or will the lack of lubrication to the top chain wear the material down drastically?

    thanks

Old style on the left, new on the right.

You have to modify the upper timing case to fit the new style tensioner.
