    VR6 timing chain issue?

    Hi guys,

My VR6 recently started making this rattle sound from the engine.

Does this sound like a timing chain problem?

    VR6 timing chain issue?

Sounds a little like chains. Should be more pronounced on turn over.

Try disengaging the clutch and see if that eliminates the noise. THe gearboxes get a bit rattly sometimes. Im at 1560000 and my gearbox rattles a bit with the clutch engaged.

That's really hard to tell from that video, compared to others anyway. Is it more pronounced on the side you were filming?
I recently had a similar noise, thought it was chains, but after a bit of digging ended up being the water pump. Check out all the pulleys too, the noises are transferred through the block so can be hard to differentiate sometimes.
    Hope this helps

unfortunately the car is an automatic lol. Would putting it in "N" be good enough?

Yeah its more pronounced on the right side of the engine. It was really hard to get the sound on cam for some reason, must be the cheap build they do on SONY HD CAM corders lol.

I'll be sure to check out the pump and pulleys on the weekend.

    Thanks for the info
