They have a serpentine belt to run all the acessories, which is not that hard to change.
Timing chains and guides rarely get changed in these cars, it is an engine out job.
Hi Guys
Looking at a 95 VR6.
Just wondering as I have read thay have a chain, but also have read the car has a belt?
Which is it & how often if ever (chain) does it need to be replaced?
Is this a big job if so & what sort of $ are you up for??
Cheers
Mark

The timing chain guides are made of plastic and do wear out. I think its usually around the 200,000km mark. Usually its and idea to do them when the clutch gets done. a pretty expensive job as there isnt much room under the bonnet of a vr6. I was quoted 8 hours labour to do the job.
Being an interference engine u dont want to let it go if the chains do start making noise tho. can get very expensive.
Thanx guys
Dont have one as yet but really handy to know this B4 shopping
Cheers
the serp belt needs changing at about 80K - if it is in bad condition it will be crazed and cracked
