    VR6 swap?

    alright
    I own a 1994 Golf Gl, it's an auto what a bummer, I didn't purchase this car myself otherwise I wouldn't own it.
    but I have started a bond with the Mk3s and I really like them. I'm still only 17 and I don't have as many hours clocked up on my Ps as if hope as theirs not really any cars to drive at my house apart from my dads ute which is boring. I really like driving but I just don't feel like automatic is any fun.

    I study automotive at tafe once a week so a little project with some mates would be fun. how difficult would it be to swap everything over from a VR6 to my car ?

    I'm guessing yous will all be telling me to just use to vr6 but I'd like a project, something to do, something to learn on. and plus I'm only 17 money is short

    If there is nothing unique (2 door, colour) don't bother.

    I agree with Dyl and Hayden, if you do it have a daily on hand, don't expect to bang it out over a weekend, waiting for parts etc. takes time. Maybe start looking for a couple of donor cars, e.g. a 2 door and a VR wreck and piece those together while you use your current one to get around, obviously all down to time, space, money.

    In saying that, it can and has been done, I'm sure Vortex will have a conversion thread, and a few cars on here have gone through it.
    There's really no welding or structural changes, but you want a really decent set of tools, and lots of time and space. Remember a proper VR swap is a pretty comprehensive list of parts.

    Holy crap that's cheap. Probably sounds as mean as it looks too.

    To the op, I'm currently in the middle of swapping a vr6 into a 2dr. I have a full time job and I still don't have the money to get it finished.(mainly coz I kepp spending money on the polo) And I can't imagine what it would be like if the CL was my daily. Parts aren't as easy to come by as you'd like. So prepare to spend a lot of money importing stuff. And that's not even on essentials.

    If it wasn't your daily and you wanted a project, then maybe it could be a good idea. But speaking from experience it's not going to be as simple as swapping an engine. On paper it's pretty simple, but 9 times out of 10 it won't work out that way.
