    VR6 Stock Fuel Consumption?

Anyone happen to have the figures quoted by the dealer on fuel consumption for the VR6 5sp manual?

Are you looking for something other than Redbook's numbers?

I have a new app on the iPhone for calcing mileage, part of the setup asks for "standard" fuel consumptions figures, then it draws two lines which theoretically you should be between being city and country figures.

This particular app has information for lots of cars going back to 1998, I chose a '98 GTI VR6 which comes us with these figures which look pretty reasonable to me:

    12.0L/100km City
    9.0 L/100km Highway

Redbook on the otherhand is pretty laughable:

    Fuel Urban (l/100km) 9.5
    Fuel Extra Urban (l/100km) 6.2
    Fuel Combined (l/100km) 7.4

It actually looks like it has the same figures for the GL

If anyone is interested the app is called AccuFuel. I just went through and put in all my back information and it was pretty straight forward, it supports export to email and editing your settings on the go, at all of $1.19 it looks pretty good.

YES I could have used one of the free apps, but I found them clunky, and YES I could have used something like google docs and it's basic spreadsheet, but then I have to connect to the net to update my figures, this is a nice easy to use app ...(so far )

I was thinking thatBut considering my running average is 11.6L/100km with almost 100% short city trips to the station and back and the ocasional club run it's not all bad.

Sure I could save a little on fuel if I drove slower, but then I didn't get a VR6 for that sort of shenanigan now did I !!

I couldn't get less than umm... 14.5 l's on mine, and I very doubt that average will ever go down during my stint with the car.

But hey, you try just driving a GL for 2.5 years !

It comes down to where you drive too, open road doing 80+ is good, back roads where you are on and off is bad...

Either that or my version of "hard time" and yours differ greatly

My worst is 13.2L/100km and my time round Wakefield (with an extra octane boost in the tank) was 12.3L/100km... although there was a little freeway in the last bit between fueling up and hooning round and reality is it wasn't a lot of KM...

    Still 14.5 is impressive
