VR6 shifter bushings

Hi there,
I sometimes have trouble finding first gear, and it appears that it could be the gear bushings that have worn down.

However, looking at ebay, the shifter kits all say that its not for VR6 which have a cable shifter. What does that mean?

Also does anyone have a short shifter kit installed? Is this costly?

Our VR6's ARE () cable shift. But... the linkages you'll find on eBay aren't for the VR6.

Shortshifters vary in price I think; everyone who buys them says they're worth it, and I think they're around the $150-250 mark, someone correct me if I'm wrong? Depends which model you get etc

Our VR6's aren't cable shift. Anything cable-shift won't fit our cars, ie the linkages you'll find on eBay aren't for the VR6.

You can adjust the shift linkage on a vr6, or there is something worn.

A short shift will not fix this problem, it will probably make it worse.

I have some shifter bushing kits which were sold to me as VR6 items but they ended up being rod shift bushings, if you want one let me know. That applies to everyone else too, I have 2 of these kits PM me

2L is a rod shift and probably needs a bushing. This is quite different to the VR6 scenario and has been discussed on other threads on here.

Yes it is adjustable at the gearbox end.

There is also a funny shaped shifter piece which gets brittle and flexes which can lead to probs too.

Quite tricky to do at home, you should probably take it to someone competant.

There are factory VW tools for aligning all 02A/M/J gearboxes at the linkage end, but you needn't adjust the system in all but the most exceptional circumstances as the cable gauge is so thick that it'll never stretch.

You'll never have a nice shift with any system involving links or rods anyway - there's no substitute for a proper FR layout with the gearstick right onto the top of the transmission.

You either replace your 02A shift tower with an 02J one (lower mileage being the plan) or import a rod linkage system for the cable boxes like what's used in most of the European race cars. The motorsport shift towers and Seqshift systems are great, but quite expensive
