    VR6 Running Rough

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue with my '95 VR6 OBD1.

I used to have a super intermittent problem where I would start it, revs would go up as per usual and then die down and cut out, would do this a couple of times, then wait and start and it'd be fine.

The other issue would be if you rev past like 3000 when it's cold (realise I probably shouldn't do this anyway) it would cut out and idle would go extremely rough and very little power. This would go away after a little driving.

This morning I started it and it was immediately doing that same rough idle and rough through most of the lower rev range and very little power pretty much all the way to work (about 40 minutes) until the last bit where I was sitting at the lights and took off and was immediately fine again. This is the first time this has ever happened.

On the way home it was rough all the way again.

I thought maybe the MAF sensor so tried unplugging it cause I heard if it runs better unplugged it could be that? But it was the same.

This is pretty much the first thing to go wrong on my car since having it, it's a genuine 120,000km car with original chains. Sorry for the extremely long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have/had this exact same problem, it hasn't happened in weeks though either due to me changing about every serviceable part on the engine or me being careful to no rev it when cold again either (obd2), wouldn't idle and ran like crap for about a minute or two. Nothing for as long as you experienced though. Really interested to know the cause.

For starters we never got OBD in Australia .
Scan it , check for fault codes
check what the throttle body is doing at idle and also how the lambda probe fluctuates .
Oil pumps are a common problem no-one seems to replace here either

I have this exact same problem. Scanning brought up nothing. It will run rough and jitter sometimes if pushed when it hasn't been running for very long. When it's revving rough I get nearly no power and even putting my foot down it struggles and feels super sluggish. I just wait for it to warm up a little before I push it now.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Ended up getting a mechanic at work to look at it. Turns out it was the coil pack.

I'm guessing that also fixed the revving when cold issue too? Looks like there is a few of us up for new coil packs in the near future.

Did a new coil pack fix your problems? What brand did you install?
