    VR6 repairs...

This part here near the air intake:

From what I have read in my Bently's it's the Positive crankcase ventilation line. Itseems to be leaking oil onto the exhaust. It's a pretty small leak at the moment but something that should be fixed up asap.

It doesn't look hard to get at or hard to replace, anyone have any suggestions on things to look out for when replacing it, or better yet, where I can get one

There is also a bit of a slow slow drip from the coolant system on the right side of the engine from what I'm pretty sure is the return from the heater core to whatever it is that plugs into... I can't seem to find any info on that part in Bently's but will grab some pics up this week.

From my experience on the forums, it seems a very common bit to crack. You have 2 choices:

    1. Replacement means the whole piece from the throttle body to the MAF (its a single part). Looking at something like $500-600.

    2. Get a tube of black silicon paste and plug up the leak. Cost of around $8.

I chose option 2 and have had no leaks since.

ah.. you beat me to it. I wanna know what that thing is too.

that thing on mine was looking ok. I took it to a very very reputable vw repairer here in sydney once and when my car came back, that piece wasn't the same.

as for your coolant issue. it could be the auxillary water pump. I replaced mine recently. its the hose coming from the heater core then connects to a part near the coil pack right?

I think my auxillary water pump went due to excessive operating temperature. I believe the high temperature was caused by the heater core bypass. Then again, the cooling system's temperature is probably the same throughout. It's just a guess anyway. On the other hand, the plastic outlet just broke apart when I was trying to undo the hose.

    Hey Hawk.
That was the first thing I replaced in my car, the whole nodule was completely disconnected, I literally had smoke coming out on engine idle, my local mechanic told me that nodule does not come on it's own, cost me 180 for a new oem hose.

    this whole section.

It interesting, it's only been an issue since I did a service and replaced the oil. By which I mean there was always clear evidence of a prior/current leak, but there was no smell and no real indication that it was anything other than a real ocassional drip. The oil was a little on the low side too.

When I serviced it I used Fuchs 10-40W, no idea what was in it before. I poured in the full 5L, so it may potentially have been slightly over full since the whole system takes 5L and it's unlikely that it was 100% empty... So it's either a little more like overflow or being a [potentially] lighter grade oil more of it's getting into this ventilation pipe.

Looks like it might be time for another swing by Mr Loon's New and Improved Campbelltown Office to acquire some additional parts

I have a leak in there too very slight, it drips on the heat shield for the exhaust and smokes from time to time after i've given it a bit of stick, it mostly happens when stationary on a considerable incline.

I'm going to replace it with a short piece of silicon hosing when i get around to doing all my other vacuum hoses and relocate my charcoal canister properly.

Thats exactly the issue. If there is an alternative to replacing the entire part I'm open to it.... silicon hose you say...

As for "after i've given it a bit of stick", thats par for the course when I drive, although last night I was driving pretty nice like and I noticed it again.

Eitherway I think it's something I will fix up. There is a few VR6 wrecks at the moment for me to look at too

Got any more info on that? Your saying there is an alternative, upgraded, part instead of replacing the busted part I have?? Or am I misreading this?
