    VR6 Oil Pressure Issues

Hi Guys, Was just hoping to get some guidance in regards to my VR6 and the oil pressure problem i am having.

At first i was cruising down the road and the light and buzzer came on at around 2200 - 2500 rpm. I stopped the car and checked to make sure the sensor wires were on correctly and no oil was leaking.

All appeared to be good so i limped it home and did more research, i replaced the two sensors hoping it was going to be that easy but it did the same after i fitted new sensors.

I took the sump off and found parts of my cam chain guides in the oil pick up, so i cleaned it all out checked the oil pump tolerance and refitted the pump and sump with fresh Penrite HPR 15 SAE 15W-60.

I do plan to fix the guide but really want to sort this oil pressure issue out, is it possible the two are related? I don't think so but that's why i am asking.

So i bought a gauge and to see what the actual pressure is and i found:

    At Idle

At 3000 rpm with the buzzer and light going off

If anyone has anything to add or anything else they can suggest i can check please post it up.

    Thanks

    Rod....

    VR6 Oil Pressure Issues

Was there any more noise when this happened?

My intermediate shaft snapped and sounded like bad chains. Consequently no oil pressure.

It doesn't really sound worse when idling, it sounds a bit rattly when it starts cold but after its warm it quite again.

Sounds like you've fixed your problem.I'd be concentrating on fixing the chains and guides before valve and piston meet at the wrong time.

But the light and buzzer still comes on after 2200 rpm even now. I am hoping that by fixing this chain issue it will uncover the reason for the oil alert.

As Stanton said I'd be looking into fixing the chains first. Have had similar problems with previous mk3's, with broken engine parts lodging in the oil pump and limiting the oil pressure when above ~2100rpm.
Ended up being a big job, so would fix the source of the problem ASAP to prevent more serious damage
