    VR6 misfire help!

The other day when driving my car went from running fine, to constantly stuttering when accelerating. The stutter happens pretty much throughout the whole rev range.

I have changed the spark plugs and leads today, but it is still happening

What else could it be? I thought maybe MAF needs a clean, but surely that would be noticeable at idle? It idles fine.

The only other thing I can think of is the fuel pump, but it seems weird that it only happens when accelerating.

The other thing to mention is that the car has had a repaired ignition coil when I bought it. When I pulled the leads out to replace em, part of the plastic bit of the ignition coil broke but the car still runs, even though some metal where the leads connect is exposed. But this couldn't have been the original problem, as it only broke off when I changed the leads...

if the coilpack has any cracks the spark could be leaking.

Does it do it all the time? or only after the car warms up etc?

I looked at a vr6 recently that was missing as soon as it hit 60 degrees. Did a scan and it was showing faults with water temp/air intake temp/maf.
Turned out to be a small wiring issue.

Hmm it seems to be doing it at any temp, but only when I accelerate.

I'm fairly sure it's not the maf as it came on suddenly, and it always idles fine etc. Seems like it also came on too suddenly to be the fuel pump.

Is this the right one to get?

If you want to change the coil pack, Tooleys imports in sydney carries them. I literally changed mine 2 weeks ago. It only get me back $341 + gst at Toolets imports@ Hornsby . Give them a go

Hmm after driving home from work, I'm starting to think this is a possibility. Can you go into anymore detail about the problem and what you did to fix it? It only started misfiring after it warmed up from what I could tell. I may just change the ignition coil anyway as there is a chunk missing out of mine, since the previous owner did some absolutely fail repair job and it broke when I pulled out the ignition lead.

Lift your bonnet and look at the coilpack in the dark.
If you see a light display, it is buggered.

even though your engine temp might be fine, it could be heat soaking. I'm guessing it doesnt do it when the car is cold or just warming up but only happens once the engine is at operational temp. Are you running a after market airpod ? if so switch back to the stock one and see how it goes. If its fine then you might need a head shield between the intake and engine.

Also any tear or break in the spark cables could lead to shuttering during accleration.

Like I mentioned, spark plugs and leads are brand new. Air filter and airbox are stock. I'm gonna replace the coilpack anyway.

Does anyone in melbourne have the right damn torx screwdriver for the engine cover? I have one but it only has 6 points, not enough for the bolts on the engine cover that go into the head. Plus the fact they're all corroded. I'm hoping that once I get a screwdriver/wrench with enough of the bloody points on it it should work. If not, what then? Smash the damn thing with a fkn hammer to break the corrosion? Any other ideas?

You need a Multispline tool. 6mm I think.
Good car shops sell them, bad car shops think they are torx bits.
I doubt a hammer will help, but a new coilpack probably will.
