I've heard they don't do an awful lot for performance, might help a bit though. Will change the sound a little too. I haven't done it so can't really comment on the differences but will be running one when I finally get my VR6 in
Hey all!
First off I currently have a Scorpian Cat-Back system in the VR6. So lately been noticing an awful sound coming from the exhaust, as if there was an empty barrel that my exhaust was being blown into.
Raised the car, tapped the end muffler, sounded all good. Tapped the mid muffler, or resonator, and it was completely empty. Sounded like I was knocking on a tin can.
Took it to Kreative Exhausts in Rowville and the guy quoted $150 to replace it with a mild steel muffler.
So it's booked in on Monday coming.
I asked him about installing a High Flow Cat while the cars there. Its a 200 cell one, and he quoted $250 for the cat and installation.
What I want to know now, is the cat worth it? I've heard mixed responses, but none really for my question.
Does anyone here have one on a NA VR6, increase performance, decrease performance, noticeable difference?
Cheers guys!

Yeah i've heard the same! To me, any gain is still a gain though. My worry is just that it may reduce some necessary back pressure!

I'm running a high flow
Every time I back off it would continue to pop
It does get annoying sometimes
Oh I see! Gaaah that would piss me off!
Did you guys notice any better throttle response with the high flow cat?
Cause if the gains are that minimal, and causes unnecessary backfire, might as well stay stock!

When I had my vr6, I loved nothing more than that crackle you would get when letting off the accelerator, so having more of it would be a good thing in my eyes
Also don't worry about losing "back pressure", it's been proven even on NA Vr6's that the less restrictive the better, with some of the fastest ones out there running full 3 inch exhausts.
I agree with Ben J that crackle when you back off is the best sound. If a high flow cat encourages that I'd go for it.
Do it. Then post videos!

Plus 2! The crackle makes the car. Nothing better slowing the car down at the lights and it's popping an carrying on.
I'll be going full 3" non res in the near future will tell you what it's like.
