A full day to take the dash out and back in more if you dont know how.
Matrix is $500 I reckon.
Hi Guys,
I know this has prob come up thousands of times, but my vr6 heater matrix has been bypassed using a u bend copper pipe to join the 2 heater hoses.
Im guessing that the reason behind this is that the heater matrix is leaking.
Where would i need to go to get a new heater matrix (seems sillly to put a second hand one in there) and how much do they cost.
Ive been reading that the entire dash has to come out to fit it and am a bit concerned whether i am capable of doing this job myself...any advice or pics with instructions/step by step guide would be great....oh and what tools would i require?
Cheers guys!

I think its cheaper to get from the US + shipping from places like mjm if they do ship internationally tho.
My heater is also stuffed, i too would like to know whats involved in dash/heater removal.
BTW, this is the only place iv'e ever seen that calls a heater core, a 'matrix'. Even the radiator places call them cores.
man it sounds ike such a big job. No air con, no heater, no sunvisors....man this sucks!
i wish i could click my fingers and have my mk2 16v here.....i miss my mk2! i will post some pics of it soon...
Think of it as a labour of love. Once its all fixed up you'll be laughin!

Matt they can't be 500 bucks surely.
GSF do them for about 40 quid. Even a LHD Passat with Aircon only cost me 100 from VW, delivered to the dealer of my choice overnight. When mine blew in the syncro.
Was a ****ty job mind pulling the whole dash out.
Gavin
yah the part is cheap. the job is a bitch!
anyone know where i can get step by step details on how to do this...and also what tools i will need?
The part is cheap but its the 5 hours of labour that you need to take it out and then put another one in thats the pain of it.
