Question VR6 : Golf vs. Passat

Hey guys just curious besides the obvious, what are the main differences between the vr6 golf and the gl vr6 passat?
    speed?
    trim?
    handling?
    opinions?

    thx

the golf looks kinda cool especially once u give it a nice stance and the passat kinda looks a bit dinky.
what sort of car are u after? do u need a hatch? the passat is a bigger car isnt it? the golf has a reasonably sporty interior whereas all the passats ive seen kinda go for a more luxury type armchair arangement dont they?

I dont really need any paricular type, the problem is availability of vr6's that are auto and fairly cheap in my area so i was just wonderin about the diiferences. i do like the golf better...don't they have different seats???

Well the golf vr6 is alot lighter so therefore alot faster . Being said that I used to have one and they were cool, and just like Tim said they go for a more luxury look than a sportier look. Golf's all the way but in the manual version, you don't want to go to a auto not as fun as a manual

I'm told the VR6 autos are notoriously heavy therefore will not be nearly as quick as a manual for more than a lack of gearing. I'd go for a Golf, shame they didn't bring out a mk3 Jetta with a VR6 in aus.

nor the V5 Golfs as well! would love the Golf more, just becoz it's a sportier model i reckon plus the weight. I would love to have a 20V turbo in a mk3

    Passat Auto Observations

I have a Passat GL VR6 and have had a couple of manual VR6s, so I feel I am qualified to speak on the matter.

I reckon the Passat is a GL spec car with the options of leather and VR6 engine. They are a well equipped car, but the seats are not bucketed like on the Golf and are indeed more armchair like. Alright if you are wide in the behind dept, I slide around on the bigger seats.

The Passat doesnt actually weigh much more than a Golf VR6. It is just let down by the slow auto. Golf VR6 Autos are slow as too. The auto is ok as a cruiser on the highway, but once you have driven the manual, an auto doesnt quite cut it.

I now have all the bits to convert my wifes Passat auto to a Manual and its gonna happen. We like the car and the leather is nice, but the auto is ****e. We both like going fast and having fun whilst we drive. The auto is so bland, the engine has power, but it gets strangled by the auto.

    Well thats my 2ps worth.
