driving through hills and sitting in traffic for 15minutes for my daily commute. i put regular 91 in once and it pinged. e10 has never pinged on me even in 40degree plus weather so im going to say its octane rating is sufficient, i also find no difference in fuel economy between 95 and 98. e10 has a very minor loss but the price difference between 95 and e10 pays for itself so its much cheaper to run.

    also expermented with e85.

i ran on 75% ethanol, car handled the extra fuel load fine,

but got bad milage, not worth it.

yeh Ive heard the GIAC chips help a bit. Get any noticeable increase in power from it?? Compared to other VRs you've driven? And I might have to give the E10 a shot hey.

I think I was getting early 12s/100 in my Indro (sort of Chapel Hill) > UQ days, which meant cold, hilly, semi-spirited driving.
Best I've seen is that red one coming back from Stanthorpe on early 6s.

Drove my brothers old Volvo 850 around for a bit, no idea how that car was as economical as it was. We almost made Brisbane-> Sydney.

    VR6 Fuel Economy

Here is my old logs from my VR6:

It gets bad when it only local and much better when on the freeway... Theoretically you will get the best economy if you are doing 90km/h which about plays out in my use.

    Hey guys,

Gonna resurrect this. The fuel consumption is still bugging me. Strikes me as just a little too much even for the VR6. I'm getting about 290 per 44L fill up which equals to about 15.1L/ 100km. Anyone got an opinion on this? Its pretty much solely inner city driving to uni and back which is about a 10k trip either way. If I do a trip to the gold coast it gets me about 60 extra ks a tank. So maybe 350ks if I'm lucky.

Feels like too much.. I give it the odd burst but i don't drive excessively hard. Feel like I should be getting more from a tank. Would an old fuel filter cause issues? Dunno how old mine is to be honest.

U should at least be getting over 400kms, otherwise something gone crap.
Mine too is abit thirsty but i've got a vacuum leak that might be affecting it, but I still get about 450-550 traffic dependant. One think I've learnt though is that obd2 cars do use more fuel than obd1 cars.
Nah a blocked fuel filter won't cause that, though if you fill up with crappy petrol, it'll use more to make up for the loss in power.
What's your idle like is it smooth and constant ie. does the rev needle stay still or move up an down ever so slightly ?
Also I recently changed my o2 sensor, it had a intermittent fault but it did change my fuel consumption, uses a little less since then.

Hmmm that is quite confusing considering I'm only get 290-300. How do you know you have a vacuum leak btw?? My idle is smooth 90% of the time but every now and then it sits there hunting if the indicator is on. Must be a dodgy regulator in the altenator but surely that wouldnt cause such a massive decrease in economy? Or should I be looking into it? Where is the o2 sensor on these? Might pull mine out and check it.
