cracked plug leads or faulty coilpack i reckon
Hi all,
Just bought a VR6 which is nice. Have an issue with the engine though and wondering if someone can help me out? At around 1800rpm and between 5500-6000rpm it misfires, anywhere in between is usually smooth.
However, sometimes it misfires through the whole rev range and backfires, quite cringeworthy. I'm guessing it could be dirty spark plugs or so, but it seems quite a task to pull them out just to check. Is there a common fault elsewhere, such as the airflow meter or hosing in between? Seems a little odd at how inconsistent it is. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

possibly the coil pack, although b4 shelling out the moneyz for a replacement pack maybe just replace the small things like leads n plugs? Mine misbehaved intermittently untill i replaced ma leads . . .
if your leads are leaking spark you can usually see it in the dark.
Start your car up at night and have a look down the holes the spark plugs live in whilst the car is revved up. If the leads are cracked you will see little sparks arc in there.
Coilpack costs a packet to replace. I have a spare one if you wanted to try fitting a good one b4 going to the expense of replacing it
yes, I agree too that it may be the coilpack. sometimes the sparks can arc across to nearby coolant hoses from the coilpack.
you selling that coilpack tim?
nnnnnup. Its worth more to me as a spare than anyone has ever offered![]()
I would say leads, my car did the exact same thing... fixed it this weekend...the lead ends go all green inside from moisture then spark can only arch onto the engine block at low revs...
I also changed the plugs at the same time...Worked a treat...
