VR6 Engine refresh. What to do?

    Hi guys,
Doing an order for more parts both Mk3 and Mk4.

But need to work out what else I should be replacing on the VR engine...
it has 240,000 odd km on the clock. has a slight over heating issue (think electrical more then anything), a shagged chain, and dying gaskets causing oil leaks.

    Anyway... so far I have:
    ultimate timing chain kit,
    gaskets all round,
new clutch fork (already has a newish clutch)
    new injectors,
    fuel filter

Things on the list so far:
water pump (had a newish one but dont know if metal or plastic, so going to replace anyway)
    hose kit
    thermostat
    overflow bottle
getting the head sent off to Bakers in Melbourne

What else would you guys suggest doing/buying? I have no plans to turbo, chase bonkers power or anything like that.
I'm not mechanically minded so come at me with any suggestions!

You've got it covered I reckon. Oil filter and air filter to be certain.

well this is what I want to here... Happy to spend more time/money now rather then have something simple go wrong in the next 50,000km

Yeh def rings at 240,000. Maybe check the valve guides in the head as well? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

If the engines been over heating, the piston rings usually suffer.
Are u sending the head off to someone ?
Cause if u wanna get back your factory power an fuel effiency id recommend sending it away. Should be able to get away with just giving them valve stem seals and guides.
I carnt remember where but theres a few places that sell complete kits, valves/seals/guides/springs/retainers.

Yep head is going off to someone.
By over heating I'm talking 100-105 while doing 100km/h on open road, not sure how bad that is on the vr as I know they are a hot running engine, can't recall the oil temps

You also need to replace that old (and invisible) supercharger with a new one... You know, while its apart and all.

But seriously, if I had a VR6 pulled that far down it would be hard not to consider what is essentially a bolt on forced induction setup.
