    VR6 engine compression?

    gday all.

    Does any one know wat the compression should be like on a VR6?
    Just going to have a look at one on the weekend, and this would be helpful to know! So if any one does, please tell me.

    this applies to mk4 2.8 in the us but i dont see it being much different for mk3

    EVALUATION OF TEST RESULTS

    According to the MKIV Bentley manual, the compression specifications for the 12v VR6 engine are as follows (the values you obtain during your test will depend on both the condition of the engine and the accuracy of the pressure gauge used):


    - new ------------------------------------------------------ 10 to 13 bar (147-191 psi)
    - wear limit ------------------------------------------------ 7.5 bar (110 psi)
    - maximum difference between cylinders ------------------ 3 bar (44 psi)

    last time i had mine tested i was between 175 - 185 on all cylinders which was sposedly healthy for a car with 175k on it.

    what tools do you guys use to test the pressure?

    According to the MK3 Bentley manual, the compression specifications for the 12v VR6 engine

    New Engine 145-189 psi
    Wear Limit 109 psi
    Difference 44 psi
    MODS- TOO MANY
