How did you open the car? If you used the remote key, then try locking and then opening it with the key.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it
I have been using the key, however i've tried locking it with the remote key, mechanical key and all different combinations, leaving it etc And still the same story, it will turn over but not fire up, there is no ignition???
It was my understanding that an immobilliser will cause either no power at all, or turn on then off.
It is exactly the same thing that happened last week, and i took it in and the mechanics claimed it was a broken fuel pump and replaced that at a cost... and the car was going strong for four days, but now no ignition.
Aftermarket car alarms suck arse, I hate them!
Cut it out and put wiring back to stock, you will find that it will all be ok again.
Alarm brain is probably fried, cheapo alarms tend to do that.
If it is the immo then the car will still start but cut out a second or two after starting as the key reader is not getting the signal its looking for so I doubt that will be your problem.
I'm not too confident tinkering with the wiring like that though. There is a big plug going into the alarm unit under the bonnet will disconnecting that have the same effect?
I'm thinking i'm just going to call the NRMA out and see what they think. Could it be a dead coilpack? Is there anyone on the northern beaches with the diagnosing software and cable?

Hi,
I am an Electrical engineer and it sounds like the immobiliser is the problem.
I would recommend taking your car to a professional car hifi/alarm installer (not a chain like Autobarn, Strathfield and the like) and have them check it and remove it. This won't cost the earth and once that is taken out you'll have one potential problem cause eliminated.
I bought my VR6 a couple of months ago and the problems you are having are not typical for the car (I haven't had any issues electrically, but then my car was completely stock when I bought it).
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Casey
The car's factory IMMO rarely goes wrong and like I said earlier the car will STILL start, it just dies a second or two later.
The flashing indicators tell me that the alarm is the cause.
The car is being sorted out by the mechanics that worked on it last week because basically they misdiagnosed what was causing the issue and charged me a lot for something that didn't fix it. So fingers crossed they can resolve it.
I got quoted $180 from an auto electrician to have the aftermarket alarm and all that taken out, as well as a few things tidied up.
I have cut out dozens of those repellors. They are a horrid alarm.
Someone needs to change the wiring to the ignition switch under the steering wheel shroud back to standard.
They also usually T into the wiring under the drivers side door kick panel, usually to the fuel pump wiring, check this and remove all the repellor madness.
Then the car should work again.
Also if you get reds, but no starter, could be the ignition switch, try lifting the key as you turn it and car should then fire.
Good luck.
