Hey to all the Dub fanatics that visit this forum,
im living in australia since 06,haved moved from Dublin,im having a prob finding a mk3 vr6 in a 3 door and have heard that they were'nt imported to australia in a 3 door model, anybody got any ideas as to this being true????
Has anyone ever heard of any body dropping a vr6 lump into a 3door cl or gl,
i know there are some strict legalities regarding engine swaps but does anybody know of any legal loopholes that would allow a 3door Dub to power up with a 2.8 vr6 drop???
ive owned a few mk3 Dubs but only in 3 door and its thing that us europeans favour over 5 door!
posting pics of my black lowered 2.0 (vr6) lookalike soon!
Great forum, look 4ward to replys!
its do-able. Biggest problem is that the CL 2 door is one of the most expensive mk3s in australia these days. Seems kinda stupid cos it was the poverty pack in its day! ud be best picking up a parts car from the auctions. that way u can do engine, brakes, suspension all in one go.
You can do it, but there are only a few 96 model cls available in 2 door form.
I did a 95 Ibiza 2 door VR6 and have a hankering to do another. Or how about a Mk3 cabrio vr6 swop? Thatd be a good aussie cruiser.
I`d get a donor smashed vr6 and swop everything.
You easiest option would have been to bring an Irish car as a personal import and just drive it around. You can still do that but you need to own it for a year overseas first.

ive always wanted to do a cabby. but last i checked the prices were still a bit high.
Great response from you Dubbers,
thanks for the help with this one,i left a tidy 1.4 3 door cl that already had a 2.0 drop in it at home thinking i'd be going bk after my year was up but this aussie sun is bloody addictive,it is possible to take the car in as a personal import from ireland then,if you could see what Dubs sell for at home it would make you sick, its possible to pick up a tidy 3door vr6 for in around euro2500 but insurance is compulsory at home and could cost double the cars worth along with a hefty roadtax on engine size, think i'll check out importing my own wheels then,it stands me little as is, did most of the work on it with mates which is always cost effective untill its time for bevs, any ideas as to how much a low km vr6 lump and gearbox would set me back?
thanks to all for your help,
Mylo
Youd probably want to get a complete wrecked VR6 so you can have the brakes, hubs, loom, box, motor and everything else that goes with it and prolly the cheapest bet! I reckon you could pick up a smashed VR6 for a few grand, as long as the motor isnt damaged, plus them you can sell off the rest of the bits you dont want/need!
Good luck with it though mate, look forward to updates and pics

a wrecked VR6 is cheaper than a VR6 engine and gearbox! be hard work finding one with under 150,000kms though
How much is a engine & box??
