To fix "timing chain a bit noisy" ...
Close to two grand at a VW dealership. Maybe around $1600 at an independent for us mere mortals.
But much cheaper for you at the dealership you work at.
This can not be left as is. Must be fixed ASAP.... Good luck.

make sure the air con is working they stuff up on the mk3 vrs and they will cost you a pretty penny if ya want it fixed
dont forget how much better a **** vr6 is than a good 2l
cheers brenton
MK1 4door
MK2VR6
MK3VR6
Transporter
1st place, stock MK3VR6. Vw nationals 07
2nd place, mod MK2VR6. Vw nationals 09
and untold wrecks
Ya so i bought it
im pretty freakin stoked about it too. already lookin at cams and researching the 2.9 clone manifold for benifits.
havent drivin it since i got it home a week or two ago cos im cant afford 2 full comp insurances. so im waitin till i get my GL sold, trying for a date close to ASAP.
got a big parts list for the timing chain job.
after reading a few things about common problems i believe the ABS may not be working as i dont THINK the abd light comes on and then off when i turn it on, i noticed that yeterday when i was lookin at it with dad yesterday. thing is i dont know if i wouldnt have bought it if i'd known that! either way my GL doesnt have abs so i probably wouldnt even bother fixin it till later when i 1) can be bothered 2) can afford it 3) find a cheap control unit since thats what usually is what goes wrong with it. (so ive heard).
the guy i got it off gave me a muffler that the guy who he bought it off gave to him. gonna put that on as soon as i get the chain fixed. he said it was "way too loud" but well see. as long as it doesnt drone to the extent that it makes me wanna kill myself, i may like it.
ya thats all i got for now.
ill post pics when i get some. probably wont be till i get the chain fixed which hopefully will be on the 17th of this month. then im gonna thrash the crap out of it.
i think its had some work done to the exhaust cos i looked at the pipes and they are all different than what ive seen on other vr's but ill have to wait till its up on the hoist to really see whats gone on under there. most of the pipework looks really badly done, very badly bent. shall see.
btw does anyone know if a stockish VR will beat a stock MKV GTI? or a 2002 Corolla Sportivo? thats the fastest cars that my mates have and on paper, my power to weight with the VR is better than theirs but well see i suppose. no thats not the reason i bought it. i think it was the sound that did that
im so freakin stoked to get this thing on the road

Congrats on your purchase! Pics soon or we ban you.
It's probably about the same as a mk5 gti. NFI on the corolla.
1996 Golf VR6 Colour Concept Green
NFI? whats that? (im sure its really obvious, but its past my bed time and im gettin sick so the old thinkin box aint workin so well right now
No ****ing idea
