VR6 clutch kit

hello fellow dubbers
i recently put an order into GAP for a clutch kit, clutch install kit and gearbox mount. i was wondering whilst the gearbox gets pulled out is there anything else i should replace ? i was told that i should do the clutch forks, but does anyone know what the correct name for this is or maybe a part number ? my car has done about 170,000 kms and any help is appreciated as i dont want 2 miss changing anything that should be changed whilst the box is out. not sure about clutch forks but u got a new throwout bearing right?

whilst your there i reckon u should change the rear crank seal just in case as you can get to it at the same time, if it happens to leak later on then its gearbox off again so i think its good piece of mind.

you should also consider the timing chain as you've already going to take the gearbox off so your more than halfway there.

are u diying or getting a mechanic to do it?

Yeah i got a throwout bearing and the rear crank seal came with the clutch install kit with various others bolts & pieces. As far as doing the chains i would love 2 but money is a bit tight at the moment as im going 2 have 2 pay a mechanic 2 do the work because
i dont have any of the tools & equipment needed 2 pull this off . I need the car done before the trip 2 melb for DOVW and its also my daily.

definately get the chains done whilst the gearbox is out. Will be cheaper to get them done now than it will to replace a broken engine.

Definitely get a new clutch fork too. I had my clutch replaced by VW at 185,000 kms. I asked them to replace anything that was usual at the time of a clutch change. They didn't replace the fork. 30,000kms later the fork broke and I was up for a similar expense of having it all fixed.

Thanks heaps for the offer Pedro, that would be great if i could grab a hand but i have never pulled off a timing chain job and clutch install before ! and my skills with a spanner are still in the infancy stage haha ! Im keen 2 have a crack though... how difficult is a timing chain change on a VR ?

timing chain isnt a hard job once the gearbox is out but the consequences of getting it wrong are pretty severe!
