The 6n polo , golf cl and audi a4 1.8 non turbo used solid discs . And some of the t4s did as well .
The reason why ventilated discs have improved efficiency over solid discs is the extra surface area of discs to dissipate heat . The air gap doesnt do much in terms of cooling since there is little direct airflow into the disc .
Slotted discs are there to prevent the gas build up between the pad and disc which causes the actual pads to crack . It wears out the pad quicker due to its harsh edges that cut into the pad when braking hard . It does however save the disc from damage under extreme braking .
