    Making your mk3 golf (non VR6) 4x100> 5x100

    Hey guys!

Had an adventurous weekend and got the helping hands of Mr Pete Jones!

The rear discs on all mk3's use the same stub axle so that was no dramas! Bought some VR6 ones (They use 14x1.5 bolts instead of normal 12x1.5 golf ones!

    The fronts were slightly harder...

I had a spare pair of front 4x100 hubs with goo wheels bearings so I started to think how I would make a template?!

I borrowed some 5x100 spacers off a friend (Tim, Its ok the lug comes out I promise! )

The 16mm holes in the spacer were TOO big to get an accurate centre point from. I found a 16mm piece of alloy and threw it on the mill...drilled a 3.5mm hole and HOLLA...WE ARE IN BUSINESS!

Let me explaint the PCD...the original is 4x100 so each bolt is at right angles to one another and I was going to 5x100 (still the same PCD just on more hole) so all the I needed to do was to bolt down the spacer using a common hole and then mark 4 other holes using a 3.5mm drill bit through the lug in the spacer! (WINNER)

The holes were drilled to 10.5mm then tapped with a 12x1.5mm die.

All that needed to happen now was the front discs for be have the same 5x100 holes drilled (14mm) and all was done! (can't use VR6 discs they have a different offset to the caliper)

Could not have done this without the massive help of Pete Jones! Thank you!

Thanks man! Yeh one inner bead was leaking so its getting fixed before I paint them (wheel guys are rough! and there is enough rim showing to tape it up with the tyre on )

Would something like this work for 5x100 -> 4x100? I have wheels that are 4x108 I'm going to run which will need a redrill, but I'm thinking of drilling them to 4x100 instead of 5x100 as I'm thinking that will make them much easier to sell then 5x100 (there only 15's, all the vr6 guys on here will be to weak to run them, and theyd look silly on a mk4 ), not to mention a fair bit safer without elongating holes and having multiple holes like over lap...

Yeh you could could go the other way dude

4x108 won't fit though! (just on the edge of the hub unfortunately! Unless you start welding...which need to be temperature controlled as its cast steel!)

Yeah I'd be drilling them to 4x100 and having the wheels drilled to 4x100 too. Hmm may need to find someone with a drill press I can borrow... Oh and a car to do it to. That may help.

Something like 4x103 wouldn't work would it? I'm guessing One of the holes would over lap and I'm guessing that would be far from safe... But then I could run wobble bolts and not touch the wheels at all.... My minds gone into overdrive now...

Dude...5x100 is the bestttt....just find the right wheels!

It's easy to do 4x100 to 5x100 and vise versa because the Pcd uses a common hole...4x103 wouldnt.
