I definetly love the car, and would not want to try sell it for something in lesser condition at all.
I don't hate the Auto itself, just the fact I have to now change the way I drive to compensate for the auto. I think I'll leave the car as is at the moment, and in a few years may look at doing the conversion.
Thanks for the help and comments everyone

Yeah auto's are great if it's a regular driver, but if you're looking for just the right amount of power and gearwork (especially round twisties) an auto can't really give you that without unnecessary pushes of the accelerator pedal so it drops down a gear etc...
I'd own an auto VR6 with mods if I thought that it would still give me enough freedom to play with its power! I just think manual can be controlled heaps more and it's more fun that way
V®6, just enjoy your car for a while, then if you really wanna go manual later, go nuts![]()

Auto VR6 REPRESENT!
Now owns a golf. Stoked.
If it aint broke then...
Jeez its still a VR! I'd have a good nick auto VR over a manual 4cyl any day! Not that theres any VR6's in good nick as my 2.slow that is![]()
80,000km 1997 MK3 VR6 manual for sale - www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f23/80-000km-1997-manual-vr6-nsw-sydney-67658.html
Careful, Them's be fightin words yarrrr! Hahaha
I guess I'm too used to driving manual now that I'd hate to own an auto of any kind. Houso is definitely right about the "it's still a VR!" bit. Auto just means you can't rip it as hard..
..but they rip plenty hard enough!

Yes, but surely you agree that the 01M transmission as used in the VR6 is a horrible box and costs lots to rebuild??
My take on it is that there are lots of super tidy autos out there which have been gently driven by girls and lots of the manuals have been flogged by generations of boy racers. Thus get a real tidy auto and convert it for the best of everything.
Brisben, Mk1 conversion is easy. $1500 I reckon![]()
