    VR6 Auto to Manual conversion?

    Hey guys,

As the topic of the thread mentions I was just wondering if anyone has managed to convert their automatic to manual before? I am not looking at doing it anytime soon, but was just curious to see if it's actually worth doing or if it's better the sell the auto and buy a manual instead.

    Any help is appreciated

Hmm, I think this type of question has been asked before somewhere...

    Anyways
You could do it, speak to someone like Golf Loon or another techie about it. It'll probs cost you a fair bit, so it depends how much you love YOUR car, whether you want to sell and re-buy a manual or you want to do a conversion.

    ...Manuals are always more fun

Conversion is not that hard. I`d charge $3000 drive in drive away.

Replacement auto would cost 2k for a secondhand and 6k for a newy plus fitting. They are slower and more proneto break, so the manual conversion is worthwhile if you are gonna keep the car.

Hrmm $3000 is not too bad. Is there a lot of work involved? If I were to go ahead with it, I was thinking of doing it myself. Or would it be better left to the pros?

The manual box will cost you $1000-$1500 and you need the pedal box and the shifter setup.
If you get all that, its not that hard.

True, but would also cost me to get the car to Sydney and back

There is your answer mate. Flog it and buy a manual...

I am in the same position, convert or sell and buy manual.

Buy a manual is an easier option in my opinion, not trying to do anyone out of any work here.

If my car were an auto (which it thankfully is not) I would prefer to sell it and buy a new one, but I love my car so I probably couldn't bear to sell it...

That's why I was saying it might be more worth doing the conversion. And if you're game, then go ahead mate. All I can say is you will never regret it!

You guys seem to think Autos are that bad . Autos are more consitent with launching , and although take $ to make them handle big hp I feel once you have 300whp+ its generally easier to drive an auto than a manual !
