95+ models have immobiliser standard. You should have a flashing light above the ashtray once u take ur key out i think?
No need to activate it, its automatically done when the key is taken out of the ignition.
Hey guys
Just picked up a VR6 on the weekend.
Looks OK, but just been reading about the immobilizer & alarm in the books.
I don't think it has an alarm but how do I tell if I have an immobilizer?
How do i activate & deactivate this??
Its a 97 model
Cheers
Mark

No Light that I can see
Can you supply a pic?
I dont know if VR6's have a factory immobilizer
I dont have a pic coz ive only got a 94 oneGL's 95+ have immobilisers so VR6's must have them.
Take apart ur key and see if u have a chip inside, assuming u can take it apart.
you guys should sticky all these things somewhere on your forum!!
I think its 95 up has the imobiliser chip in the key case.pull it apart and it looks like a 6mm x 3mm x 3mm black plastic rectangle.without this the car will not start, hence if you cut a normal key to start the car ,it wont work.
so putting a extra alarm system is useless(thats not to say I didnt have one on my vr6,but I was younger and more stupid then,lol)..the only way this car will be stolen is with a tow truck or by jacking.
oh,ps, there is no flashing light to say its activated.it is on as soon as the key is removed from the proximity to the barrel.

correct - 95+ have immbolisers but no light. there is a chip in the key. auto on when you turn it off.
\'95 Golf VR6
my 4/95 VR6 has a proximity chip in the key.
I have a little chip in my key and its a 12/94.
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
i dont think i have any of that, mines a 9/94 (i think) and i didnt need an imobilizer bypass when i got my remote start installed.
