Would set aside at least the better part of a day. Assuming nothing goes wrong.
Just wondering if any of you guys have experience in a vr6 head gasket replacement? Is it a big job or can it be done on a Saturday arvo over a couple of boags draught cans kind of thing?
Haven't fully blown mine, just leads a bit.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Cheers.

roger!
any recommended gasket or just go an ebay spec one?
Would go oem for that. Would hate to have to re do it.
Get a mk4 12v one. They are thinner so raise the compression a little for more power
I went to install a battery charger yesterday which should have taken 5 minutes... turns out both nuts on the battery terminals were cross threaded. One wasn't two bad, the other was complete toast. 2 Hours and a trip to the parts store and it was all back together and working. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to find the "simple" jobs seem to turn into a right PITA very quickly
While your there and pulling things apart... anything else need doing? Inlet and outlet gaskets will be coming off so might as well do them. And while it's half apart what about the timing chains (which is a hell of a job so maybe not), crack pipe?
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you. | Refer a Friend - AussieBroadband $50 Credit
Where would I get my hands on one of them Hayden? Local dealer or?
I'll have a good look when it's all apart, I'll hopefully replace all the gaskets that are shot. I know that the valve cover gasket will need doing for sure.
Not sure if the timing chain has been done. Do you know what xxxxx kms service they normally do it on? Since I have the logbook from previous owners.
No death rattle though!
Plus I have a donor, so any hardware that has had it will be easy to swap out!
And I have already replaced crack pipe about 5000clicks ago!
Ecs will definitely have it. Might get lucky on ebay or another vendor.
Dealer won't get it cause they use your vin and we didn't get mk4 12v 's
You want the gasket from the AFP engine, I cant seem to find a part number for you, but here is a nice looking kit... although not in Australia as usual for these things.
VR6 Head gasket Set, AFP, AAA, metal head gasket
Or here is the gasket by itself.

I used to get lots of parts from German Auto Parts for my Mk3. They only charge shipping at cost (or used to anyway). If you get a bunch of stuff at once it can make it all worth while.
