Looks great, something you'd see in a French car.
Are those seats really stock VR? Or retrim/from something else, never seen a VR with map pockets. Maybe they're those really tight fitting fitted covers?? OR I'm just a tripper.
So after driving around in a ghetto golf (if golfs can be ghetto...) without a hoodlining, I finally got sick of looking up and seeing wires hanging everywhere:
and got onto the annoying job of fixing it all up. As some may know, the sunroofs here in Oz were often done when the cars got here, by the dealers, so the old hood lining card gets butchered and you're left with a mess of falling down fabric and foam and weird cardboard everywhere.
I forgot to get some good shots of the process by basically I decided to go with a lateral thinking approach and instead of just glueing it all up there again, I went the risky option and separated all the pieces of card I had left and covered each of them (a front, two side bits and a rear one). I then replaced the foam that was used to cover up the sunroof mechanism (was a B**tch to clean it all off) and glued on a large piece of new fabric (with lots of aligning help from the father). So it ended up covering the centre piece and then I fitted each of the separate pieces around it to help hold it up and also make it look a little classier. The end result:
I would highly recommend this to those with sunroofs that have buggered up hood lining cards. It will make it easier to repair, it almost looks like its OEM and it makes sure the forces on the fabric are actually holding all the bits up rather than angled down and pulling it off. You will need two people to fit the foam and the centre piece up, otherwise you can do the rest yourselfI think I may have been a bit light on with the contact adhesive so make sure you really pile that on and also be careful with the various trim clips. I found that my front ones were brittle and fell to bits when I pulled the pillar trims off... So time to head to the wreckers!!
To come:
Finish off sunroof hoodlining (didnt have time to get the glass out)
Chip
Fairing
Panel Beating on Monday
Skirting and mudflaps

Like the sunroof, I think they were done here in Oz when the car came from Germany. They are actually out of the wreck and I even have the original 1997 brochure that outlines how to care for them so they are definitely showroom seats but not factory leather i'd say. Personally I prefer having the pockets haha. Plus the leather seems to be really high quality and wasin far better condition than the ones originally in the twin.

So I stupidly went and bough 6 inch speakers which won't fit my 6.5inch speaker holes... Can't return them as I got them off gumtree cheap. Any ideas on how to adapt them? Can't find any adapter rings for 6.5 to 6 inch holes.

could probably make some out of mdf, wouldn't be too hard I would think, if you have a jigsaw and such, just cut some rings out of like 12mm mdf, drill holes, ? ????, profit!

Or just duct tape them and leave it there.
I was thinking of the mdf option but then I cant fit the stock grilles over the speakers (Me and my stock look fetish...). Haha not a half bad idea, smeeb.

Also try gap filler foam, also works as sound dampening holds nice and tight.
Would work a treat until you want you speakers back.
Good job - nice VW - keep going - well done love the VR6
