Just a thought, but it might be an idea to put some heatshrink on the metal spades too?

So did you use a resistor like some people suggested overseas? From all the research I did there didn't seem to be a definitive answer as to whether or not use one...

thanks for the replies guys its really not too complicated when you think about it
i just went to extra lengths to make sure nothing goes wrong

from what i have gathered the only reason you need a resister is to protect the coils from earthing to the car
the coils on a normal car switches on via the positive terminals
on vws they switch via the negative
if they are earthed to the car that means they are constantly on
so they will just overheat and blow up
i didnt end up using one because my icm was good
for those who would like to know if you decide to use one you need a 1ohms resister rated at 225 watts

the reason why people have trouble with blown coils is they have a bad icm
    (ignition control module)
basically whether or not earth is leaking through to the contact points on the icm (each coil 16 34 25)

the only way to tell if your icm is good is to use a multi meter that can read in solid state

my mates an electrician so he tested it for me

    heres my finished job

    and my old coil pack

I dont really see how ignition upgrades on a stock engine are going to produce any more power??

Still, it this IS comparing it to our dreaded coilpacks. And good to hear that its running well for ya!

Sorry if I've missed it, but how much did it cost in the end?
