now that my maf is further away from the throttle body it seems to run a bit richer and has a lower idle
    anyone care to explain why???

Pete it looks like the maf sits further out of the centre of the pipe than it should (reading air flow, hence best to put it directly in line?)...that could explain things maybe?

thanks dude but its definatly centered or the same as i measured everything to match up
its not really a problem its actually gives me a bit more punch just wondering why technically?
if anyone has any knowledge on how a MAF works chime in.

a mass airflow meter works by heating up a thin metallic wire to quite a high temperature. The difference in voltage potential across the wire is measured as a rate of change as the air flowing through the inlet is used to determine what mass of air is passing through the cross sectional area.

basically. wire gets hot. air going in cools it down. as the hot wire gets colder, the voltage of the sensor changes --> change in mass of air.

The grid and shape are really all quite important for the maf to work within factory parameters
