    Testing coolant temperature gauge

    Hi,

I've recently finished some major work on an ex write off VR6 and it's looking great. However, I have a small problem that is really bugging me!

About a week ago my in-dash temperature gauge started to flicker. A couple of days ago it stopped working completely

I'm pretty sure the cooling system run-on temperature sender unit is also the sender unit for the dash gauge, is this true?

If so, is there a way of testing whether the temperature sender unit is broken or the gauge?

Yep by using a resistor wheel on the wiring, thus you become the sender, if that makes sense. you set the resistance and the gauge should respond accordingly

Thanks. Do you know which of the pins to connect it to? I'm assuming it's two of the pins on the 4 pin "run-on" sender unit... is that right?
