Now that I've owned my car for a year now, I feel like I should properly introduce my car.

This is a 1995 1.9 TDI

Will do a nice photo shoot soon.

Great car, goes forever. Really good for cruising.
Right now I'm getting 900 - 950 KM on a single tank So I'm doing something right

It's surprising how much i can fit in the boot with a full steel wheel badly hiding under the carpet (The carpet shows it shape now)
Been able to fit a 4x10'' guitar amp, a big ol'Jazz archtop guitar, my guitar pedal box and my toolbox neatly

After what seemed like a short year of studying, I can now work up the money to do things to my car.

Things to do:
[ ] New brake discs and pads; vented, possibly will turn 5 stud.
[ ] Coilovers
[ ] Boost gauge install
[ ] Making the engine breath better
[ ] Find leak in central Locking (Is there a tutorial on where to start?)

Ascetically, my plans are inspired by the stormtrooper suit and the imperial starships.
So I'll be wanting to make those black textures into a high gloss black along with dark glossy tinted windows. I don't think i could have a painted lip though, got a steep drive way.

But after going camping for the first time, and my mate choosing a campsite down a dirt road for 20 minutes, I found myself hitting a pothole which in result bent the FR driveshaft, seizing the wheel bearing and needing a CV joint replacement.
So my plans of getting new discs are on hold till I get my money's worth out of the repairs and getting on coilovers this summer may not happen, depends how much work i get.


Looking forward to changing the output of the engine.
The dream would be to be at the new GTD's output of 125kW and 350 Nm of torque, but when money is hard to get, I've got a choice of waiting or doing best bang for buck mods as i go. At the moment I'm waiting, green P's...

Now that i have driven a pugeot 307 HDI and a 2010 Jetta 2.0 TDI, i have an idea of what would be optimal for the older TDI.
The 307 has a bigger turbo than the Jetta, but of course comes with more lag and the power kicks in at 3k, which is quite high seeing as mine gets power just below 2k. The Jetta on the otherhand, is much more drivable. To get to the Jetta power would probably be more realistic, though the fuel injection system are different, pump deuce i believe? Maybe start with bigger injectors.

What would be the best step to making the car breath better? I've seen FMIC installed but many people cut into the re-bar and I ain't doing that, i'd rather have a cut up the front bumper.

The long term goal would be to give this car a go around track days, but there's plenty to do till then.

AAMI has free defensive driving courses I can do, so I'll give that a go, then I'll go for some advanced lessons I guess.

Hi there. I sold my mk3 diesel this year but had a long love affair with it. This is my build thread:

Everything i've done in there is applicable to your car, with the main difference being that your car has direct injection and an ECU controlled injector pump, so in order to make small tuning changes you will need to modify your ecu - but all of the mods I did for exhaust and intake apply. I used many different turbo's, had a couple of intercooler setups and I tell you this now - you can't do a proper FMIC setup with good benefits without cutting into the bumper support panel - but that doesnt mean you need to weaken it (theres a link in the build thread to another thread detailing the FMIC install).

In the end, I sold the car making 125whp and 300Nm. The standard engine puts out 74hp at the flywheel. Your TDI is more like 90hp at the fly (with everything working properly and when new) so you have quite a ways to go before you get to GT golf power - but its all fun.

950km a tank? My 1.8 petrol is lucky to get 500kms around town from a tank and i doubt its any faster then that :/ quite depressing. Haha. My vr was almost as fuel efficient as my 1.8... anyway I shallnt rant in your thread

Looks like a nice car! Good luck with it! I think a diesel would be a lot of fun to play around with one day, they dont have to be slow at all.

Iv'e got a 97 TDI, which I love to. it's been chipped and had an uprated side mount intercooler, and outs out 75fwkw, which is pretty decent. Boosts to 19psi.

I've love to put a proper FMIC on mine, as well as a 2.5" turbo back exhuast.

I get 6.5L/100kms, pretty much all the time.

I think to really get the old TDI to wake up and feel like a newer TDI a variable vane turbo is needed. One of them is on my dream list too!

Yeah i saw your thread and i thought 'How much of this can i apply to a Direct Injected?' thanks.
I've put this on the dyno when i was on my L's and it showed 67kw at the flywheel so it hasn't lost anything over time

Ahh, the fender twin. The cleanest sound you get, i was looking second hand for one but ended up with a new peavey classic 50.
I got a Grestch Electromatic 5120 and a Stienberger Synapse as my two electrics.
